Districts & Villages
Raseborg was founded in 2009, when Ekenäs, Karis and Pojo were united into one municipality. Raseborg was named by the medieval Raseborg Castle, which according to the records, dates back to 1378. Today Raseborg is a large and wide region with many districts and villages. In additon to Ekenäs, Karis and Pojo, also Billnäs, Fiskars, Snappertuna and Tenala are parts of the municipality. Raseborg is bilingual with approximately 28 000 inhabitants. About 65 % of them are Swedish-speaking and 31 % has Finnish as their mother tongue. Therefore all of the street signs are printed in two languages, first in the majority language Swedish, and then in Finnish.
