Ekenäs Church
Built in the 1680s on the initiative of Gustaf Adolf Leijonhufvud.
Ekenäs Church was originally a small wooden church built by Count Axel Leijonhufvud in 1589. In 1600, his younger brother Moritz Leijonhufvud completed the building. The initiative to build a stone church was taken in 1651 and the stone church was completed in 1680. However, the fire that ravaged the Old Town in 1821 destroyed the church and 13 other neighbouring houses. The new (current) church was completed in 1842. The church was restored between 1957 and 1959 and between 1987 and 1990.
Ekenäs Church has many valuable artefacts, including a communion cup from 1631 and a Bible from the 17th century that belonged to the vicar Sigfrid Aronius Forsius. The church organ dates from 1843 and was donated by the knight Bernt Erik Ingberg. The organ was built by Anders Thulén.
The address of the church is Lilla kyrkogatan 3, Ekenäs. Read more about the church and see opening hours here (only in Swedish).
