The school was founded by Uno Cygnaeus in 1871 and functioned between 1871-1974.

The college was founded by Uno Cygnaeus in 1871. It functioned between 1871 and 1974 in the building located at the corner of Raseborgsvägen and Hedvig Sohlbergs gata. The building is currently occupied by Novia University of Applied Sciences. The main building, which dates from 1871, is a fine example of Finnish neo-classical architecture. There is a memorial stone in front of the building.
